Man killed in Jhenaidah pre-election violence

A man was killed last evening in a clash between supporters of two councillor candidates in the upcoming Shailkupa municipality election in Jhenaidah district.
Witnesses said supporters of councilor candidates Shawkat Hossain and Alamgir Hossain Khan were locked in a clash over election campaign at Kabirpur area of the municipality at around 8pm on Wednesday.
Shawkat Ali's younger brother Liaquat Ali Boltu and two others were injured in the clash.
Later, critically injured Boltu (50) was rescued from the spot and rushed to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Kushtia General Hospital Residential Medical Officer Tapas Kumar confirmed the death.
Jhenaidah Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Shailkupa Circle) Ariful Islam said an operation was underway to arrest the culprits involved in the incident.
