Dhaka Abahani Limited edged past Bangladesh Police by a solitary goal in their first match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
Dhaka Abahani Limited showed better performance than their opponents but they failed to break the defence of Bangladesh Police before 85th minute of the game.
After a barren first half, Abahani's Haitian recruit Belfort scored the all-important goal in the 85th minute of the play. Belfort got the ball at the D-box from his teammate Nabib Newaz Jiban but Belfort's first shot was returned after touching the body of a Police Defender and Belfort made no mistake to put the ball into the blank net.
Masih Saighani of Dhaka Abahani Limited came close to score in the 24th minute but his shot was rebounded after touching a foot of a Police defender.
In the 80th minute Saighani got a ball from a back header of Nasir Uddin which came on his way from a flag-kick of his teammate Wali Faisal but Saighani's header returned from the goal bar after touching Police custodian Nehal. Later, Saighani got the ball but his shot went wide.
Today Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Limited will face Brothers Union Limited at the same venue. The match kicks-off at 8.00pm. Private satellite sports channel T Sports will telecast the match live from the big bowl.
