Bangladesh crosses 4 lakh Covid cases

Bangladesh's total of coronavirus cases crossed the four lakh mark after the health authorities announced the detection of 1,436 fresh cases over the last 24 hours till Monday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the country now stands at 400,251, with 1,436 new cases detected in the last 24 hours, according to a press released issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday.
DGHS also reported 15 new deaths from the coronavirus within the same period of time. With the latest figures, the country's Covid-19 death toll has risen to 5,818.
Of the new deceased, nine are men and six are women. Among the total dead, 4,480 or 77 per cent are men while 1,338 or 23 per cent are women.
As per the press release, 1,493 more patients recuperated in the last 24 hours to take the total recoveries in the country to 316,600.
During the period, 13,758 samples were tested in 111 labs across the country. With this, a total of 2,271,347 samples have so far been tested in the country. The positivity rate-- an indicator of the prevalence of the disease -- was recorded at 10.44 percent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 17.62 percent.
The recovery rate continued to rise in Bangladesh reaching 79.10 percent. Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.45 percent.
On Sunday, Bangladesh registered 23 deaths and 1,308 infections from coronavirus after testing 11,103 samples with a positivity rate of 11.78 percent.
Meanwhile, there is no respite from coronavirus as it sickened 399,503 people across the world in the previous 24 hours till 10am on Monday.
In total, the reported infections from the virus have reached 43,345,944 across the globe.
Besides, the death toll from the virus has climbed to 1,159,093, including 4,236 during the period, globally, according to tracking website Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 10,281,960 patients, 10,204,164 are in mild condition while 77,796 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 31,904,891 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. Of them, 231,886 recuperated in the last 24 hours.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 8,889,179 and 230,510 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 7,909,959 and third highest fatalities of 119,030 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 157,163 and third highest cases of 5,394,128.
