Attorney General Mahbubey Alam laid to rest

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam was laid to rest in the capital's Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard around 1:20 pm on Monday.
Earlier on the day, his namaz-e-janaza was held on the Supreme Court premises and then people from all walks of life bade farewell to the eminent jurist there.
Mahbubey Alam passed away at 7.25 pm on Sunday at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka where he was under treatment after being affected by Covid-19.
Around 11:00 am on Monday, his body was brought on the Supreme Court Bar Association premises for namaz-e-janaza and paying last respect.
After holding his namaz-e-janaza military secretaries on behalf of President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid last respects to the attorney general by placing wreaths.
Besides, chief justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, law minister Anisul Huq, fisheries and livestock minister SM Rezaul Karim, railways minister Nurul Islam Sujan, judges of the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court, former Appellate Division judges, Dhaka South City Corporation mayor barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, SCBA president AM Amin Uddin, inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam joined the janaza prayers and paid tribute to Mahbubey Alam by placing wreaths.
The two divisions of the Supreme Court suspended sessions on Monday in a tribute to Attorney General Mahbubey Alam. Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain made the announcement at around 9:45 am on Monday. "No sessions will be held on Monday as part of the top court's homage to him", Justice Hossain said.
Mahbubey Alam was the chief legal officer of the state for the longest time in the history of Bangladesh. He was 71 years old. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
