Staff Reporter :
Director General of the National Identity (NID) Registration Wing of the Election Commission (EC) Brigadier General Saidul Islam has said NIDs of 927 persons including Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury have been blocked as they became voters twice.
He revealed it in an online press briefing on Thursday afternoon.
Islam said the report of the inquiry into forging national identity cards would be submitted next week.
The NID DG said, "We'll compile all the reports after receiving the inquiry report, and take actions identifying the culprits."
He said 2,07,000 dual voters have been detected while updating the voter lists. "We'll take legal action against those who deliberately become voters for the second time among these voters."
Brigadier General Islam said necessary steps have been taken against Dr Sabrina for becoming the dual voter concealing information. Both of her NIDs have been locked.
The NID DG further said a six-member committee has been formed with the IT experts from the Bangladesh Computer Council and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology to identify how Dr Sabrina had become voter twice and whether anyone was involved in the wrongdoing.
