Somu Chowdhuryâ€™s three decades in acting

Noted actor Somu Chowdhury is hailed from Jashore. While staying there he he was attached with Jashore Udichi. Later, he came to Dhaka and joined theatre group, Nagorik Nattya Sampraday. Student of Social Science of Jagannath University, Somu started acting professionally through drama Somriddho Ashim, produced by late Atiqul Haque Chowdhury. The drama was telecasted on BTV on March 22 in 1990. He got huge appreciation to play the role of Galib in the drama. He has been passing three decades of his acting career. He is regularly acting in TV dramas and films now. Due to family reason, he took six years break during his three decades of career. He has returned to acting again.
After Samriddho Ashim, Somu also acted in dramas Sonali Roddure, Rang Chita, Sobujer Holud Byadhi, Kalo Joshna, Na, Satpoure Kabbyo, Jonmobhumi, and popular drama serial Uthon.
In big screen, Somu first acted in Shamsul Alamâ€™s Shotojonomer Prem but his acted first released movie was Amzad Hossainâ€™s Adorer Sontan. Later, he acted in films Jummon Kosai, Desh Dorodi, Prem-er Naam Bedona, Moron Niye Khela, Jabi Koi, Sundori Bodhu, Hridoy Theke Pawa, etc and with Salman Shah in Mayer Adhikar.
After break, Somu returned to acting through Avro Mahmudâ€™s drama Ek Chamoch Protein. Somu informed that in BTVâ€™s short film titled Aamar Babar Naam, based on Bangabandhu, Somu played the role of war heroine Alkaâ€™s father. He also acted in Deen Islamâ€™s film Choritro. He has finished shooting of Masud Chowdhuryâ€™s drama titled Prayoschitto for BTV.
While talking about his long time acting career Somu Chowdhury said, â€œI got huge love and respect from the viewers and fans - it is a great achievement in my 30 years of acting career. But I have dissatisfaction as an actor. I got scope to act in many challenging roles and in future I will act in these roles. To come into this position, I am grateful to Shanti Ranjan Saha, friend Gobindo, respected Atiqul Haque Chowdhury, Kamal Uddin Nilu, Kayes Chowdhury and Shomi Kaiser.â€
