Bangladesh women's cricket team won gold in the 13th South Asian Games Women's T20 cricket beating Sri Lanka by two runs in the nail-biting final held on Sunday at Pokhara in Nepal.
It was first gold for the Tigresses in their maiden appearance in the South Asian Games.
Chasing a winning target of 92 runs set by Bangladesh, Sri Lanka were restricted at 89 for 9 in 20 overs.
"Definitely this gold will inspire the team more to perform good in the future … the gold is very important for team as well as for the country," said women's team manager and former national team opener Javed Omar Belim to reporters after the match.
There is nothing better than this for the team to have gold it's a huge achievement for the country, said excited Javed.
Replying to a question, "Javed said we were short of fifteen to twenty runs in the match which the girls covered it by doing good bowling and fielding and snatched the victory in the final."
Responding to a another quarry, Javed said the SA Games was not of their part of preparation of World Cup as it was only in their mind that they came here to win gold for the country.
Bangladesh's team suffered early batting jot as they lost five wickets in 6.6 overs in the score board after they were forced to bat first by Sri Lanka.
Nigar Sultana, who had struck ton in the last match, then take the responsibility to allow Bangladesh to play out the full 20 overs, making a team-high unbeaten 29 off 38 balls laced with two boundaries and one over boundary. She also involved an important 30-run partnership Fahima Khatun (15 off 21) for the seventh wicket stand to help Bangladesh to post a respectable total 91 for 8 from their allotted 20 overs.
Umesha Thimashini was the most successful bowler for Sri Lanka as she claimed 4 for 8 runs.
In reply, Sri Lanka found the chase stiff and eventually they were fell short of 89 for 9 in 20 overs.
Sri Lanka lost wickets in regular intervals but Sri Lankan skipper Harshitha Madavi kept the other side intact with a patient 32-runs off 33 balls but failed to reach the destination in a crucial moment.
Lihini Apsara (25) and Nilakshana Sandamini (10) were the other two Sri Lankan batsmen able to reach the double figure.
Nahida Akter was the pick of Bangladesh bowler taking 2 for nine runs. She was later named the play of the match for her impressive bowling performance.
