From today, a cargo plane loaded with onions will arrive every at the HSIA to meet the4 country's demand, it added.
Besides, the TCB and Businessmen are also importing onions from Turkey, Egypt, Myanmar, Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates.
As the onion prices began to rise about two months ago after India's ban on onion export, the government had taken various measures to curb the prices of the item.
Earlier this month, each kg of locally grown onion was sold for Tk 100-120 in the capital's kitchen markets. But the price jumped to Tk 160 on November 12. And on November 15, per kg onion was sold for Tk 260-280 in the city.
