BSS, Kishoreganj :
President M Abdul Hamid urged all, including elected representatives, elites and political leaders, to work shoulder-to-shoulder to continue the country's ongoing development trend and give it a sustainable look.
"The government is geared to carry out development but people have also responsibility to make it (dev) sustainable . . . A comprehensive work of public representatives, elites and political leaders is a must to accelerate the pace of advancement," he said this on Monday while addressing a public meeting at the Astagram playground here.
The President also asked the local people and others concerned to work jointly to continue the ongoing development trend in the haor areas and the national progress as well.
Abdul Hamid also asked the elected representatives and others concerned to reach benefits of the development made by the present government at the grassroots.
Abdul Hamid said the present government has been working for overall development of the country and people of all areas including the remote and haor regions are enjoying benefits of the development.
Responding to demands of the people, he said "I'm trying my level best to change the life and livelihood of haor people. I need your cooperation to this end."
General people are very powerful indeed, the President said, urging the elected public representatives not to underestimate the common folk.
"Please maintain a good relation with them (general people) as you did before election. Stay beside them during their joys as well as sorrows," Abdul Hamid, veteran politician and a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, advised.
Referring to the drug abuse of youths, which has turned into an alarming state at present, the President urged guardians and others concerned to provide all-out cooperation to the ongoing drive against drug abuse.
