Staff Report :
A Dhaka court has deferred the remand hearing of Dhaka South City unit Jubo League President Ismail Chowdhury Samrat over cases filed under the Narcotics Control Act, and the Arms Act, due to his illness.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, on Wednesday, fixed October 15 for the remand hearing of both Jubo League leaders Ismail Chowdhury Samrat and Enamul Hoque Arman.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shorafuzzaman Ansari passed the order on Wednesday, said the
Recording Officer and Sub-Inspector (SI) of Police Nizamuddin.
Samrat was hospitalized after falling sick at Keraniganj Central Jail. He was first taken to the CCU of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) at 7:35am on Tuesday, and then shifted to the NICVD in Agargaon at 7:55am the same day.
Meanwhile, Arman was produced before court by Ramna police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahfuzul Haque Bhuiyan, on Wednesday, for the same case filed under The Narcotics Control Act.
The police also asked for a 10-day remand and that they be allowed to show Arman arrested over the case.
Magistrate Shorafuzzaman granted the petition for showing him arrested, and fixed October 15 for his remand hearing.
On October 6, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Samrat, and his accomplice Arman from the Chauddagram upazila of Comilla, over their alleged involvement with illicit casino operations. RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam sentenced Samrat, under the Wildlife (preservation and security) Act, to six months in prison for keeping two kangaroo hides in his possession.
On Monday, RAB filed two cases against expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Chowdhury Samrat and his accomplice Arman.  The cases against Samrat and Arman were filed with the Ramna police station.
Samrat was sued under the narcotics and arms acts, while Arman was sued under the Narcotics Act only. His remand hearing was to be held on Wednesday.
