Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the opposition BNP's student front, and the Bangladesh General Student right protection council (BGSRPC), that led the quota reform movement on Wednesday demanded the resignations of the vice chancellor of Dhaka University, as well as the dean of the Business Dhaka University vice-chancellor and Business faculty dean for ;illegally enrolling; 34 BCL leaders on a specific department under the faculty to facilitate their participation in Ducsu election.
They also demanded the cancellation of studentships of those enrolled illegally and re-election of their post. JCD brought out a protest rally from the base of the symbolic Raju memorial sculpture that paraded through main points of the campus before ending in front of Sheikh Rasel tower of the university.
Speaking at the protest rally, Al Mahedi Talukder, President of DU unit JCD, said from the day Ducsu election was announced, the university authorities provided extra privileges to BCL. But admitting BCL leaders waiving theadmission test, as the accusation
goes, could in no way be acceptable, Al Mahedi said.
"We hope the administration will take steps to cancel the illegal studentship of BCL leaders," he added.
Meanwhile, BGSRPC formed a human chain at the foot of Aparajeya Bangla voicing the same points. Speaking at the human chain, Hasan Al Mamun, Convener of Bangladesh General BGSRPC) said, "Enrolment in DU requires an admission test. But before the Ducsu polls, VC Akhtaruzzaman along with dean of business school Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam facilitate their participation in the election signing a piece of paper instead of intake test."
"What they have done is clearly moral degradation. We're demanding resignation of both of them and reelection to the posts held by BCL leaders after vacating those," Mamun added.
Around 150 students from various departments participated in the human chain.
Progressive Students; Alliance-the alliance of left-leaning student bodies also held a press conference in front of Teachers Students Centre (TSC) demanding 'illegal Ducsu' be dissolved.
Recently it emerged that 34 Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders got enrolled in the university ahead of DU Central Students; Union (Ducsu) election without any admission test, written or viva voce and eight of them were elected in Ducsu and hall union elections.
