Information Minister and Publicity and Publication Secretary of ruling Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud on  Saturday said Bangladesh has now been regarded as a bright example of communal harmony across the world.
"Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, today's Bangladesh is characterized by non-communal spirit. Our first identity is that we are Bengali. Religion is individual, the festival is for all. It is our social culture," he said.
The information minister was addressing the inaugural function of the Janmashtami Mahotsab (festival)-2019 organized by Gulshan-Banani-Baridhara-Bashundhara Foundation at Bashundhara Convention Center in the city.
AL Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi addressed the function as the special guest with Iskon Secretary Padcharu Chandra Brahmachari in the chair.
The information minister urged all to take part in the festivals together shunning the differences.
Hasan said, "The confrontational situations and divisions created among the people after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman came to an end when Awami League assumed power after 21 years".
