Youth killed for resisting rape, suspect lynched

A 26-year old man was hacked to death while he was resisting an attempt to rape his niece in Chuadanga sadar upazila on Saturday.
The suspect, however, was beaten to death by the villagers soon after the incident. 
The youth who was hacked to death was Hasanuzzaman, while the lynched man was identified as Akbar Ali, 36, from Damurhuda upazila.
Police and Hasanuzzaman's family said, that the schoolgirl used to stay at her grandfather's home in the village. Vegetables seller Akbar broke into the house in the morning and tried to abduct the girl for rape.
Hearing the girl screaming, her maternal uncle Hasanuzzaman and grandfather Hamidul Islam tried to save her, but Akbar stabbed both of them, leaving them injured critically Hasanuzzaman succumbed to his injuries on the way to Sadar Hospital while Hamidul was rushed to Kushtia Medical College Hospital,  said Chuadanga Sadar Hospital's doctor Abu Ehsan Md Wahed.
The injured schoolgirl was sent home after primary treatment.
Police sent the bodies of Hasanuzzaman and Akbar Ali to the Sadar hospital morgue.
Chuadanga Superintendents of Police (SPs) Kanai Lal Sarker said that police were investigating the incident.
Chairman of Mominpur union under the Sadar upazila Golam Faruq Zoarder said that Akbar Ali was earlier caught while raping a woman.
