The father of Golam Kibria, a Traffic Police Sergeant who was killed in a road accident this month, filed a writ petition with the High Court (HC) seeking its directives for payment of Tk 10 crore as compensation to his family.
The HC bench of Justice J B M Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam fixed July 28 for hearing the
petition submitted by Golam Kibria's father Eunus Ali Sikder.
In the petition, Eunus Ali said that his son was killed after a covered van of Jamuna Group ran over him when he was discharging duties on the Barishal-Patuakhali highway near Barishal University in Barishal Sadar upazila on July 15.
He prayed to the court for passing an order asking the authorities concerned and Jamuna Group to pay Tk 10 crore to his family as compensation.
On July 15, Kibria, 32, gave signal a speeding truck to stop, but the truck ignored the signal. Then the Sergeant chased the truck with his motorbike.
At that time, the truck hit him and ran away, according to police. Later, a murder case was filed.
Kibria was posted in the Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP) and continued his duty till the sad end of his life.
