Journalist, writer Ahmed Humayun

Mohammad Kabirul Hasan :
Ahmed Humayun, (1936-1999) was a writer and journalist who was born on 18th May in 1936 at Barahnagar of West Bengal, India. Initial stages of his life were spent at Shahbazpur village of Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria. He came to Dhaka after passing the Secondary Examination from Mohini Kishore High School in 1953. He got admitted to BSc (Hons) in Physics of Dhaka University after passing the Higher Secondary Examination from Dhaka College in 1956. It may be mentioned that he served as the Acting General Secretary of the then Bangladesh Student Union of Dhaka University in 1958. He passed the BSc Honours examination in 1958 and MSc examination in 1961.
After finishing his student life, he started his career as a Quality Control Officer of Adamji Jute Mills. After serving there for one year, he joined the then English weekly Dhaka Times as an Assistant Editor. Side by side, he continued to teach at Jagannath College. He joined the newspaper Dainik Pakistan in 1965 as its Assistant Editor. He was a guest lecturer at Dhaka University in the second half of 1970s. Humayun was appointed the Editor of the Dainik Bangla in 1985 and took retirement from the post in 1996. He used to write in different periodicals since his student days. His publications include: Biporit Srotey Rabindranath (1973), Single Column, Double Column (1986), Alef Miar Prithibi (1984), Nogor Dorpon. He received the Ekushey Padak in 1987 for his valuable contributions to journalism.
Ahmed Humayun breathed his last on 23rd July in 1999.
