87pc people are getting safe water, Tazul tells JS

Local Government, Rural Development and Co- operatives Minister Md Tazul Islam on Sunday told the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) that about 13.92 crore people, 87 per cent of the country's total population, are getting safe water now.
The minister was replying a starred question made by treasury bench lawmaker Md Anwarul Azim (Anar) in the House here.
Besides, he informed the House, 99 per cent of the total population has come under the fundamental sanitation. Of them, 61 per cent uses sanitary latrines, 28 per cent uses joint latrines and remaining 10 per cent uses insanitary latrines.
According to the Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP) Report-2015 of World Health Organization/UNICEF, the number of sanitary latrine beneficiaries is 9.76 crore in the country.
