One person was killed and three others injured as a portion of wall collapses on them following an explosion of AC at Exim Bank located at a building at Kadamtali of Shanir Akhra in city on Monday.
A pedestrian was killed and three others were injured in a wall collapse following an explosion inside a three-story RS Tower in city's Shanir Akhra on Monday morning.
The dead was identified as Farid Uddin Ahmed, 50, a cap trader. He was a resident of Kadamtali's Rasulpur. He is son of late Abdul Jalil hailed from Fulgazi of Feni district.
The three injured are van-puller Saidul, 30, fruit trader Zakir Hossain, 35, and Kamal Hossain, 40, manager of Haque Bakery and Sweets. They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for treatment, witnesses said. Â
Firefighter Kazi Nazimuzzaman, however, declined to comment about the cause of the explosion immediately.
Sources said, the outside wall on the first floor of the three-story building collapsed following the explosion at about 9:30am. The bricks of the wall hit the passersby, leaving Farid Uddin dead on the spot.
Reasons behind the explosion could not be ascertained immediately, said Kadamtali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jamaluddin Meer.
The building has a restaurant on the ground floor and a branch of EXIM Bank on the first and second floors, said the OC.
He said that investigation is on to verify if the incident took place following AC blast.
Seeking unnamed, a witness said, "The wall collapsed following an explosion in Exim Bank's storeroom around 9:30am that cost the life of Farid Uddin on the spot."
The second floor of the building was also partially damaged due to the blast, he said.
He suspected that the explosion might have occurred due to faulty wiring in an air conditioner.
