Man to die for rape, murder of child

A Chattogram court on Monday sentenced a man to death, for raping a seven-year-old child before killing her in Brahmanbaria two and half years ago.
Chattogram Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Abdul Halim handed down the verdict against Arshadur Rahman, said Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Ayub Khan, adding that the court also fined him Tk 1 lakh. Arshadur was present in the court when the verdict was delivered.
According to the case statement, Arshadur followed the child while she was returning home after buying bangles from his shop at a village fair. He took her to a jungle, raped and later strangled her to death.
Police recovered the body the next morning, following which the girl's father filed a case. Later, a Brahmanbaria court framed charge against Arshadur after police pressed charges against him. The case was transferred to Chattogram Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal in January 2018.
