Didarul Alam Raju, Khagrachhari :
The Power Development Board (PDB) is allegedly using bamboo poles for supplying electricity in Khagrachhari District city violating existing rules.

But the rules are being violated in Rupnagar area in Khagrachhari city. Electricity is being supplied using bamboo poles to about more than 40 houses at Rupnagar.
Moreover, many bamboo poles used for supplying electricity were found in a bad shape with power cables hanging just overhead at some points.
Chandan Chowdhury, Sabuj Roy and Palash Dev, residents of Rupnagar area said that electricity was supplied in their village with bamboo poles pose risks to the local residents. They said although they had requested the PDB authorities several times to remove the bamboo poles but PDB is yet to take any step.
The PDB had provided them electricity meters one year ago and they have been paying bills regularly, they added.
Md. Masud, councilor of  Khagrachhari Municipality said he had informed the matters to PDB authorities with a request to set standard electricity poles removing the bamboo poles. But PDB yet to settle the issue.
He expresses deep concerned and said it might causes huge losses to life and properties during rainy reasons.
When contacted, Khagrachhari PDB Chief Engineer Kamal Uddin admitted that supplying electricity using bamboo poles is a clear violation of existing rules.
Replying to a query, he said the electricity supplier and user are both equal offenders. Effective measures will be taken in this regard as soon as possible.
