Campus Report : German University Bangladesh (GUB) celebrated Pohela Boishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year 1426 through a number of programs. The Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Dr Md. Shams-Ud-Din inaugurated the traditional "Mongol Shobhajatra" early in the morning. Before inaugurating the program the GUB VC said, "Pohela Boishakh is for all Bangali, irrespective of religion and sects." The procession started from the university premise in Gazipur and paraded through the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. GUB Vice Chancellor mourned the people who died in fire incidences around the country. Apart from all hazards, he hopes that the country is in the highway of development and will continue under the leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The meeting was chaired by Prof Dr Md. Moazzem Hossain Miah. In his speech he briefly talked about the origin and development of Pohela Boishakh. He stressed on the propaganda and misleading preaching by the religious fanatics on the celebration of Pohela Boishakh. A cultural program was arranged after the discussion session. The students and teachers actively participated and enjoyed the program.
