College student commits suicide

A college student  committed suicide by hanging with a selling fan of room at rented house at Loanoffice para in Jessore town on Wednesday.. The dead was identified as Miraj Uj Zaman(16) , son of homoeo doctor Kaid Uz Zaman, and also a  student of Eleven (science) class at Government City College,  in Jessore town  .  Being informed Kotwali thana police SI Khaledur Rahman rushed to the spot and recovered the body from there and sent it to Jashore Medical Collage Hospital morgue for autopsy .  He also said   that the parents of Miraj gave threat not to use Mobile Phone at dead of night loudly causing he could not tolerate this and at one stage he committed suicide himself  by hanging with the selling fan of his room by his mother"s orna .  SI also said that after getting permission from the DC for not  to post mortem  of the body and refund the body of Miraj to his relatives .
Narail dist council chairman fined

Special Judge Sheikh Faruk Hossain, in a verdict, fined Tk 6, 67,120 to Sohrab Hossain, Narail district council chairman and former mayor of Narail Municipality, who is also a leader of the ruling Awami League and 8 others, in a graft case on Tuesday. The court also kept him standing in the court room as punishment, said Sirajul Islam, public prosecutor, Anti Corruption Commission. Sirajul Islam told that Sohrab Hossain gave lease of Narail Bazar, Rupgonj Bazar and Narail Bus Stand while he was the mayor of Narail Municipality to be benefitted personally. The ACC, it its investigation, got evidence in favour of the corruption of the chairman. Then a case was filed with Nrail sadar police station in this connection accusing 10 people including the chairman on August 8, 2018. After hearing the court handed down the verdict on Tuesday.
25 mds of Jatka seized in Chandpur

The district task Force in a drive seized 25 maunds of Jatka (hilsa fry) from on the bank of Meghna River in Chandra union under Sadar upazila of the district on Thursday night. On secret information the task force conducted the drive in the area led by district executive magistrate Ujjal Hossain last night and seized the jatka from the spot. Nobody was arrested in this connection. Additional district magistrate (ADM) of Chandpur Abdullah- Al-Mahmud Zaman said, the seized jatka was distributed different institutes and orphanages this morning.
Free health camp at RU

A day-long free health camp was held at Rajshahi University on Friday to provide free medical services and medicines to the poor. Around 100 poor and distressed men, women and children were given free treatment and necessary drugs by the team of a Dentist Club. Nobojagoron Foundation, a RU voluntary organisation on Friday arranged the health camp at Budhpara near the university campus. President Anamul Islam Tuhin, general secretary Shoriful Islam, education secretary Khalid Hasan and the organisation's members were, among others, present.
