Highway police must be sincere to tackle long tailbacks on highways
Long tailbacks at different points on Dhaka-Chattogram highway often cause severe disruption to the smooth communication of passengers as well as goods-carrying vehicles. On Friday, a 10-km tailback was created on the same highway in Daudkandi Upazila of Cumilla, causing immense sufferings to passengers.
I, at that time, was coming from Chattogram to Dhaka with my private car. After talking to the Highway Police personnel and drivers of some other vehicles, I came to know that the tailback was created stretching from Meghna-Gumti Bridge in Daudkandi point to Munshiganj point while two trucks went out of order over Meghna Bridge. Just a week ago, another 30-kilometer long tailback on the same highway in Daudkandi Upazila had also led to immense suffering to me and thousands of other passengers when I was going to Chattogram.
Usually, if there is a problem on the highway, it causes long tailbacks on both sides of the road. In the recent days, vehicular movement often gets slow due to the development works of Meghna, Gumti and Kanchpur bridges. Apart from it, accidents, collapse of vehicles and police checking also play vital role behind the tailbacks.
Dhaka-Chattogram highway is life-line of the country's economy. I do believe, if Highway Police takes some stringent measures the sufferings of people would be comparatively reduced.
