On condition of anonymity, some residents of the colony said, so far our knowledge go, there is no rule for dumping fertilizers in the locality , but in stead of keeping fertilizers in go-downs , some influential persons including transport contractors and leaders of the workers' union have piled it in the colony adjacent to their houses with a view to save their costs. They have bringing the common people to health threat only for their own profit. Besides, since the fertilizers were piled in an open place, cattle eat it and ultimately they die.
21 No. Ward Councilor Samsuzzaman Mia Swapon said, on Wednesday a cow died and thereafter I have instructed to remove the fertilizers from the Railway Colony.
Md. Hafizur Rahman, sub-assistant Engineer of Khulna Railway station who is also in the charge of monitoring the railway quarters said, Urea fertilizers have also been piled in front of my office, I asked to remove several times but nobody pay any heed to it.
Contractor Md. Ismayeel Hossain said, we have sought for rail wagons and since the wagons were not given we have compelled to keep fertilizers beside the Railway tracks for easy movement. When we will get wagons, the fertilizers would be removed from the Railway colony, he added.
