5 mayor aspirants get polls symbol

The Election Commission on Sunday allocated symbols among the candidates vying for the posts of mayor in the by-polls to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
Campaign for DNCC officially began yesterday with the allocation of symbols. The DNCC by-polls will be held on February 28.
Atiqul Islam (Awami League) got Boat as the election symbol, Shafin Ahmed (Jatiya Party) Plough, Shahin Khan (Progressive Democratic Party) Tiger, Anisur Rahman (National People's Party) Mango and Abdur Rahim (Independent) Table Clock.
The candidates can continue their election campaign till midnight of February 26, DNCC Election Returning Officer Abul Kashem said while
distributing the election symbol in the morning.
He requested all the candidates to follow the electoral code of conduct during their campaign.
The Election Commission on January 22 announced the schedules for by-polls to the DNCC mayor post, and its councillor posts in 18 new wards as well as the councillor posts of Dhaka South City Corporation in its 18 new wards fixing February 28 for the balloting.
The DNCC mayor post fell vacant with the death of Annisul Huq on November 30 last year.
