bdnews24.com :
BNP and Jatiya Oikya Front candidates from different constituencies, including Mirza Abbas, have started their official campaigns in the capital for the 11th parliamentary election.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday before leaving for his promotional campaign, Dhaka-9 candidate Mirza Abbas said he
and his family were feeling insecure as there were many law-enforcement officers surrounding their house.
"People in plainclothes are standing at every gate around my house. Friends or relatives-nobody can come to my house. This is inhumane," he alleged.
"After the announcement of the electoral roadmap, 3,500 leaders and activists have been put into jail. During this period, around 150 cases have been filed against them while over 200 people have been detained," Abbas said.
"As many as 3,500 active workers are in jail right now. How can a candidate run promotional campaigns in this situation?"
After the press conference, Abbas distributed leaflets around his locality. His wife Afroza Abbas was also with him at the time. Afroza is a candidate of the Dhaka-9 constituency.
Abbas alleged that police arrested 25 activists after an Islamic prayer session at his Shahjahanpur home on Monday.
