Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested eight gang members who used to identify themselves as members of Detective Branch of Police (DB) and robbed people.
PBI Chief Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Banaj Kumar Mazumder confirmed the media at the PBI Headquarters in the city's Dhanmondi on Tuesday.
He said that the gang arrested from Sutrapur area included a fake DB Assistant Commissioner, two fake Inspectors, two fake Sub-Inspectors and
three fake Constables.  Two of the gang are still on the run.
"They were planning a robbery in front of Jagannath University when they were apprehended," said the PBI chief.
One of the gang's victims, Mostafizur Rahman, an expatriate currently in Dhaka, filed a case with Tejgaon Police Station on October 25- after he and a friend of him were robbed of Tk133,000 and two mobile phone sets.
Following the filing of the case, a PBI team thwarted the gang's next planned robbery and arrested the culprits.
