Private satellite channel, Channel i organized Humayun Mela on the channel’s premises in the capital’s Tejgaon area on November 13 to mark the 71st birthday of noted author, playwright and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed.
The 71st birthday of author, dramatist, screenwriter and filmmaker was observed in a befitting manner. Alongside the Channel i, different other socio-cultural organizations arranged various programmes. Annya Prokash Publication distributed ‘Humayun Ahmed Award.’
With the publication of Humayun’s first book titled Nondito Noroke in 1972, Humayun Ahmed came into the limelight as a promising young writer. His next book Shonkhonil Karagar was another huge success with the readers. He wrote over 200 fiction and non-fiction books, all of which were bestsellers in Bangladesh.
He won the Bangla Academy Award and the Ekushey Padak award for his contribution to Bengali literature.
Humayun Ahmed, son of Foyzur Rahman Ahmed and Ayesha Foyez, was born on November 13 in 1948 in Netrakona. He died on July 19 in 2012 at a hospital in New York. In his childhood, Humayun Ahmed lived in Sylhet, Chittagong, Cumilla, Bogura, Dinajpur and Panchagarh where his father was on official assignment.
The noted writer had studied in Chittagong Collegiate School. He passed SSC examination from Bogura Zilla School in 1967 and was listed as second in merit of the Rajshahi Education Board. He passed Higher HSC examination from Dhaka College in 1969. He obtained his graduation and Masters Degree in Chemistry from Dhaka University. He obtained PhD degree from North Dakota State University.
Humayun Ahmed served as a lecturer at the Bangladesh Agricultural University and later joined Dhaka University.
