Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday felicitated the country's Garo community on the occasion of Wangala to be celebrated across the country today.
On the eve of the day, the Prime Minister in her message said, "Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. People of all faiths and communities are contributing to nation building being imbued with brotherhood, amity and non-communal spirit since the ancient time".
The Garo community is living in the country with all people peacefully maintaining own heritage and culture for decades, the premier added.
Sheikh Hasina said many people of Garo community took part in the country's Liberation War in 1971 responding to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's call. The nation remembers the contribution of the Garo community with due respect, she added.
Maintaining the prevailing communal harmony in Bangladesh, the present government is committed to establish the country as a peaceful one in the world, the Prime Minister said.
"Being imbued with non-communal spirit, we are working for changing the fate of all citizens. We will build a hunger and poverty-free, prosperous, non-communal and peaceful country with the combined efforts of all, In-sha Allah," Hasina added.
She wished all success of the 'Wangala festival 2018'.
