Self-development workshop for underprivileged women in city

Oxfam Bangladesh and Dustha Shasthya Kendra (DSK) jointly hosted a workshop titled "Network meeting with local government and women Development related organizations" under the project "Empowering Women and Building Sustainable Livelihood in Urban Bangladesh" for underprivileged women of Mirpur area around 11:00am on Monday at Pallabi Community Canter.
Md Selim Fakir, Regional Executive officer, Region-2 (Mirpur), Dhaka North City Corporation was present as chief guest in the workshop. As chief guest he said that women have had successes in education and politics, however participation in the workforce remains lower than men.This kind development project encouraging  underprivileged women participation in workplace which ultimately will enable self-relience, economic independence, retirement planning and provide a cushion from economic shocks for the household as a whole.
A documentary on 'Empowering women and building sustainable livelihood in Urban' was screened by DSK's project manager Tahmina Kabir which shows how the project is teaching the underprivileged women of urban's slum about sustainable living and thinking of upcoming crisis in future'.
As chair of workshop, Jahirul Islam Manik, councilor of ward no 3 under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) assured underprivileged women entrepreneur saying 'we will provide all kinds of facility to them to get 'trade license' without any hassle". He also expressed his willingness to help them with all means. Certificates were handed over to 30 women at the last stage of the workshop.
With a view to empowering underprivileged women and reducing violent against them through sustainable livelihood, DSK took this initiative since 2017 sponsored by Louise foundation that will end in 2019.
