Staff Reporter :
Noted jurist and Gono Forum President Dr. Kamal Hossain said that he has no intention neither to run in the polls nor desire for any designation. "My mission is to install a democratic and secular state."
"Those who have been badmouthing about me, I want to send them the clear message that I am struggling not for any portfolio, but for democracy," he said this while addressing a press conference at Jatiya Press Club on Monday afternoon.
On his written statement Dr. Kamal presented the seven-point demand. They are: dissolution of current parliament, resignation of cabinet, formation of a polls-time neutral government, release of all political prisoners, ensure the rights of freedom of speech and political movement, reconstruct Election Commission with those who have people's faith, and no EVM use in the coming parliamentary polls.
"The Jatiya Oikya Front has floated the seven-point demand and the only affiliation among the parties in the coalition is to achieve those demands," he added.
Dr. Kamal said, Jatiya Oikya Front is not a platform to support any specific party or political figure.
"There's no option to perceive the Oikya Front initiative as a move to back the     Jamaat-e-Islami or any political figure, including BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman." He added.
In reply to a query, Dr. Kamal said, if anyone criticise me I don't bother it. My only motto is to ensure a neutral atmosphere for free and fair polls.
Dr. Kamal draw an attention of the journalists said, you (Journalist's) have a remarkable contribution to hold a free and fair election. It is pleasure for us that the journalist's have broadcast the news aprioristically.
He said, we have thrown the programme to make awareness to the mass people that they have duty to organise a free and fair election.
Gono Forum Secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu and Executive President Advocate Subata Roy were present at press briefing, among others..
After weeks of talks and intense negotiations, the BNP, Gano Forum chief Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikya Prokriya, ASM Abdur Rab's Jatiya Samajtantrik Dala (JSD) and Mahmudur Rahman Manna's Nagorik Oikya formally launched the alliance - Jatiya Oikya Front-on Oct 13, just months before the general election.
