Seminar on Bangladesh economic development at NDUB

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith is seen at a seminar entitled 'The Economic Development of Bangladesh: Achievements and Potentialities' held at NDUB auditorium in the city on Wednesday.

Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) organized a seminar entitled 'The Economic Development of Bangladesh: Achievements and Potentialities' on Wednesday at NDUB auditorium. The programme is presided over by Prof Dr Father Patrick Daniel Gaffney, CSC, Vice Chancellor (VC) of Notre Dame University Bangladesh.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith was the chief guest and Fazle Kabir, Governor of Bangladesh Bank is the special guest of the event where Prof Dr Md Azizur Rahman, Chairman, Department of Economics, NDUB, was the keynote speaker.
The event aimed at enlightening the youth by the veterans in the academic and practical field of economy, and so the programme set sail with academic session chaired by Dr Md Aynul Islam, Professor and Chairman, Department of Economics, Jagannath University where discussants are Dr Md Zahirul Islam Sikder, Professor and Principal Dhaka City International College and Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali, Professor and Coordinator, Masters in Economics (Entrepreneurship), Dhaka School of Economics.
Father James Cruze, CSC, Chairman, Board of Trustee, NDUB welcomes all guests on stage. He addresses, "At the beginning, I quote from Eleanor Roosevelt---the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. I find this idea very much connected with today's topic, 'The Economic Development of Bangladesh: Achievements and Potentialities'. Personally, I believe and I have found that the young generation has unlimited possibilities to build up Bangladesh as a first world country."
Following this, a keynote paper was discussed by Prof Dr Md Azizur Rahman. In his speech he expressed to the audience, "Bangladesh has majority of its population within the economic active or working age group (15-64 years) in the last two decades. The GDP growth rate 7.86 percent in 2017-2018 is happy news for us."
Furthermore, Fazle Kabir, Honourable Governor, Bangladesh Bank shared, "The meaning of Notre Dame is 'Our Lady' which is a French word referring to Mother Mary -referring to knowledge and wisdom. I am thankful to this university that it organized such a didactic seminar for the youth to know the potentialities of the country. Moreover, Notre Dame University Bangladesh is neighbour to Bangladesh Bank, and so it's my pleasure to be a part of this intellectual event."
Moving forth, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said, "Our present condition should be to increase effective demand and diversifying products. This is what I have been following for the last ten years, and I propose that my successor also follows this strategy."
Vice Chancellor of NDUB Fr Patrick said, "The Finance Minister described a success story that is absolutely astonishing and considered by many to be one of the best in the history of Bangladesh."
Before the concluding speech, prizes and certificates were distributed to the distinguished guests, chief guest and special guest. Finally, vote of thanks is delivered by Registrar of NDUB Fr Adam S Pereira, CSC.
