Hill bleeds again : 7 killed, 7 others injured in Khagrachhari gunfire among rivals for establishing supremacy: Road blockade tomorrow: Hunt for attackers on

Seven people were killed and seven others injured in gunfight between the two factions of CHT-based political group UPDF at Shonirbhor Bazar in Sadar upazila of Khagrachhari on Saturday morning.
At least seven persons, including two Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP) leaders backed by the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), were killed and two others critically injured in a gun attack by rivals over establishing supremacy at Swanirbhar Bazar in Khagrachhari Sadar upazila on Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP-UPDF faction) Khagrachhari unit Acting President Tapan Chakma, its Organising Secretary Elton Chakma, passerby and Mohalchari upazila Health Complex Health Assistant Gitayan Chakma, Democratic Youth Forum (DYF) VP Palash Chakma, Bangladesh Open University student Ripon Chakma, Poragacha area resident Shono Kumar Chakma, and Engineer Dhiraj Chakma of Panchari upazila.
The injured are PCP activist Sohel Chakma, and DYF members Shamar Chakma and Shakhidhan Chakma.
They were taken to Chattagram Medical College from Khagchhari Sadar Hospital as their physical condition deteriorated, reports our district correspondent quoting Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahadat Hossain Tito.
The incident occurred in Swanirbhar area of Khagrachhari Sadar around 8:30am when UPDF and UPDF-backed organisation members were gathering there to attend a programme in the morning, the OC said.
"Soon after the incident, security was beefed up at the Swanirbhar Bazar area, and vehicle movement has been kept suspended on the Panchari- Khagrachhari road," the police official said.
UPDF Organizer Michael Chakma has blamed rival group MN Larma Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS), and UPDF Democratic for the killings.
"JSS activists shot our men dead when they were campaigning for a program at the Swanirbhar Bazar," he said.
JSS spokesman Shudhakor Tripura could not be reached for comments despite repeated attempts.
Khagrachhari Superintendent of Police (SP) Ali Ahmad Khan said they suspect the shootings took place due to a political rivalry, and they are working to identify the attackers. Meanwhile, at least four female activists of UNPD were injured when some unidentified miscreants attacked on them at Perachara in the sadar upazila around 12:30pm.
The injured are Shan Kumar Chakama, from 5 No Bhabon-Chora, Urmi Chakma, a first year student of Khagrachari Goverenment College, Minu Chakma, from Gulkan village, Sona Ranjon Chakama, from shibandir area in the upazila,
Besides, the PCP called 6-hour blockade in the district tomorrow (Monday) to protest the incident.
On May 3 last, Advocate Shaktiman Chakma, 55, chairman of Naniarchar upazila parishad and a leader of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (MN Larma faction), was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in Rangamati.
Later, five people were killed and eight others injured in a gun attack on a motorcade of the followers of slain Naniarchar upazila parishad chairman Shaktiman Chakma at Betchhari in the upazila on May 4 while they were going to attend the funeral programme of Shaktiman.
