Combined and Unified admission test

  • Print

Dr. Forqan Uddin Ahmed :
Recently the S.S.C examination is over. Generally after examination our students go on pleasure trip with their friends and meet their dear and near ones. This is what is the tradition of our country. But this year the picture is quite different. Meanwhile, coaching has been started and it is almost like the condition of the fighting soldiers in the war-field. The students are yet to know which method is going to be applied in admission test this year. Meanwhile Jagannath University has taken a resolution to give up M.C.Q method to face the fraud and fraudulence in the question paper of admission test from Jagannath University?
Are they not in conformity with the policy of combined admission test- which was a decision in a meeting of all VCs in presence of honorable Chancellor Md. Abdul Hamid. It was a decision from the head of the state in order to reduce the admission troubles of the students and their relevant guardians. By this time, to prepare a guideline of combined admission test, the education ministry formed a committee comprising 7 members. And another committee of 9 members was formed headed by VC of National University. Both the committee were directed to prepare and formulate a policy and admission guide line and a concept paper was supposed to be submitted by 15 Aril, 2018.
Every year it is discussed but finally it does not came to success. The initiative was taken in the year 2008, when Dr. Hosen Zillur Rahman was the education adviser. Similarly the same issue was discussed in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 but it remains confined only to discussion. It never comes to light. In the year 2016 a meeting was due from Ministry of Education but it did not take place. In 2017 it was recommended in the UGC's annual report and accordingly the President and Chancellor of Universities agreed to it and expressed the satisfaction to see it. Again in 2018 what will be the policy matter about admission test?
This again has become a matter of confusion to students and guardians. In the traditional system students have to suffer a lot. They run from one place to another, one institution to another. In the midst of such hassles, many students do not appear in examination in time. Even they spend a lot of money. The institutions may not earn a considerable sum of money but their combined system will indeed reduce the sufferings of the students and the guardians. Now the question arises- is preparing a guideline a difficult task in context of question paper selection, software selection, secrecy of question papers, transparency in publication of results, the application form of examination, how the examination will be controlled and finally will there be any bureaucratic complicacy?
All things mentioned above combinedly may again give a good decision. It may be a challenge to the concerned authority. But if we dare to face challenges how we will get the sweet fruits. And we would able to remove our discrepancies, distortion and disorders. If we fail, it would undoubtedly defame our integrity and dignity. How could we expect to build up a developing and digital Bangladesh and attain the sustainable development goals for our future generation. Are we afraid of it?
If so, how could we develop our education sector? How could we organize our human resource development? How could we build up our leadership and finally how would we make our people skilled and resourceful. The combined admission test should be taken immediately after the HSC examination. If we pass the time, the students should prepare themselves for admission test again. Moreover they have to pay a lot for getting admission in the coaching centers. If we take the admission test just after the HSC examination, students can prepare in the examination with their HSC preparation and coaching business will be stopped. Thus we can save money of the middle class and lower class people. The decision of combined admission test should be taken immediately.
The traditional procedure of admission test must be stopped by the comprehensive efforts of UGC and the university authorities. In no way it can be compromised for any interest of some vested corners. In this regard, all the pertinent body must come forward with sincerity and commitment to do goods of nation's interest. This is the election year. It is noticed that govt. is taking rational measures and constructive plans and giving mandates for people's happiness. Meanwhile leakage of question in examination has been stopped and no surplus tax are being imposed in budget and even the Padma bridge is going to be completed. So, the decision of combined admission test might be a milestone for coming election. Our people are now conscious. So any step taken by govt. will stir up the people's sentiment. If the future of student are widened and become bright then it would not be less than Metro-rail or Padma bridge.
We are at the marginal point for preparation of a guideline. Almost the time is going to be over, admission is now knocking at the door. When the policy will reach our student. If it is not done even after series of meeting and discussion then what will be the benefit of such meeting and seating. However, our students are hopeful of getting a combined guideline of admission test. Still there is a time to look after the matter. Otherwise students' future will be spoiled. This initiative must not be fallen under any clue. Negligence or lacking of initiative may ruin our future students. God knows what is in store for them. The policy makers have their adequate data and they are equipped with technology and information. We believe the concerned authorities are also affectionate to our young boys and girls. Moreover, we are respectful to the good wishes of our president. With all the things would we not come forward to make our students a presentable life? We just need a proper and quick decision.
The students and guardians believe that under the leadership of our dynamic prime minister, the UGC and education ministry can do anything and everything.
