22 'drug peddlers' jailed in Rajshahi

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 22 more people here on Tuesday and they were sentenced to six months jail each by a mobile court on charge of taking drugs and drug peddling.
The elite force conducted raids in different areas of Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Natore and Joypurhat districts and arrested 26 people for their alleged involvement in drug trading or taking drugs. Regular case has been lodged against four of them.
The RAB sources said the force also seized 760 yaba tablets, 47 bottles of phensidyl, 1.57 kilograms of ganja, and 39,800 liters of local liquor and some other drugs-taking instruments from their possessions.
Later, the arrested persons were produced before a mobile court. After examining the evidences, the court sentenced 22 of them to jail.
Nure Alam, assistant superintendent of police working with the RAB, said different courts sent more than 343 drug addicts to jail during the last 14 days.
