UNB, Chattogram :
A fierce tornado hit the port area, leaving trail of destruction and injuring at least 8 workers on Thursday morning.
Witnesses said around 9 am the tornado hit the port while the anchor of a  container laden foreign ship 'MV OEL Straights' broke down causing it to plunge on the middle of the river. Port Terminal Manager Md Sarowarul Islam said the well-arranged containers went messy in a blink of eye at the container yard due to strong tornado that lasted for 30 seconds.
"Within few seconds bordering wall of Dock Office collapsed, the covers of 9,12 and 13 sheds of the jetty in Port no 5 flew away with the stormy wind", he said and eight workers there sustained injuries. Port Secretary Md Omar Faruq said the tornado could not wreck big damage, the foreign ship was salvaged and messy containers have been re-arranged again.
