Sherlock Holmes Week observed

Campus Report :
The British Council Cultural Centre celebrated the 159th birth anniversary of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle this year in its Fuller Road office in Dhaka University area. Over the period of 18 to 28 May 2018, the cultural centre's library space was decorated with danglers designed on the themes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and his most famous fictional detective character Sherlock Holmes. An online mystery-case solving competition was also hosted on all the British Council Bangladesh social media channels.
The online campaign also included snippets of lesser-known facts of Sir Arthur Konan Doyle's life. Apart from his flourishing literary career, Sir Doyle initially pursued a medical profession. Many critics believe that his in-depth scientific knowledge of the human body influences many of his works, including his murder novels. Sherlock Holmes is one of the widely-celebrated characters among Bangladeshi readers. Many schools include stories of his mystery thrillers in their summer reading lists.
The 10-day competition, therefore, attracted thousands of followers online. A series of case-incidents and riddles were designed from the real-life events of Sir Doyle and the stories on the famous Sherlock Holmes. Participants of the competition had to respond to these cases by commenting the correct answers on the posts and sharing it on their profiles, trending the hashtag #BeingSherlock. Based on their consistent performances, five lucky winners were chosen. These winners will receive prize packs and free library memberships from the Cultural Centre.
The British Council supports and encourages celebrations that allow students to explore cultural exchange and experiences here in Bangladesh.
