Mango trader fined in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: A trader has been fined Taka 20,000 on charge of his involvement in spraying chemical on immature mango in Charghat Upazila in the district on Tuesday. On a tip-off, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ashraful Islam conducted a mobile court at Patiakandi Bazar area and found Zibarul Islam, 45, son of Abul Hossain of Barobaria village, spraying harmful chemical on immature mango. The court arrested him with 60 kilograms of immature mango. Subsequently, the court fined him Taka 20,000 on the basis of circumstantial evidence. Afterwards, the seized mangoes and chemicals were destroyed before the public in general, reports BSS.

Leopard beaten dead by villagers in Faridpur

FARIDPUR: A leopard was beaten to death by the locals at Ghopghat Dakkhinpara village in Madhukhali upazila early Tuesday. Villagers said the leopard stormed into the cowshed of one of the residents of the village at dawn and swooped on a goat.  Hearing the sounds of the two animals scuffling during the attack, the owner of the cowshed and his family members rushed into the shed with big powerful sticks and thrashed the big cat till it died on the spot.The leopard was later buried beside the house.Confirming the incident, UP member Bikash Saha said the leopard is being presumed to have killed many cattle of the village, re[ports UNB.

Advocacy meeting awareness meet  in Kishoreganj

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and Youth Development jointly organised an  awareness advocacy meeting with students on No Accident, Road safety held at Local Youth Training Complex on Tuesday.Deputy Secretay & ADC (General) Torafder md. Akhter Jamil attended as chief guest while Deputy Director of Youth Development Md. Rukonuddin Bhuiyan in the chair. Deputy Coordinator Tania Zaman and CAB President, Senior Journalist Alam Sarowar Tito were attended as special guest.
It was addressed among others by BRTA Senior Assistant Director Engineer Shafiqul Alam Sarker, Inspactor Md. Saiful Islam, Student Md. Saidur Rahman and Student Salauddin Ahmed.At least 140 person joined in the awareness meeting.

Bazar Monitoring Committee inspects Rangpur markets

RANGPUR: The Bazar Monitoring Committee of the district administration inspected retailer shops in different kitchen markets of the city on Tuesday afternoon to maintain stable prices of essential commodities during the holy month of Ramadan. Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Hafizur Rahman led inspection activities of the Bazar Monitoring Committee at the kitchen and grocery shops at Mini Bazar, Nababganj Bazar, City Bazar, Station Bazar, Lalbag Bazar and other markets of the city. The ADM inspected different retailer shops, talked to the common consumers and traders on prices of essential commodities and observed price list boards and asked the traders for selling foodstuffs strictly following the displayed price lists, reports BSS.
