Kolkata Int'l Open GM Chess meet on

 The 3rd Kolkata International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament-2018 began on Monday at Kolkata, West Bengal in India.
Fifteen players from Bangladesh including one Grandmaster, two International Masters, one Woman International Master, five FIDE Masters, three Candidate Masters and three FIDE rated players are participating in the event.
In the first round CM Sohel Chowdhury drew with Russian GM Diviatkin Andrei. Three Bangladeshi players GM Ziaur Rahman, FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman and Tahsin Tajwar Zia earned full point in their respective 1st round games.
IM Abu Sufian Shakil and CM Sohel earned half point each.  In 1st round games: Tahsin beat Tarun V Kanth of India, FM Fahad beat Jaeel Atharva of India, GM Zia got walk-over against his opponent Subrota Biswas. IM Shakil drew with Harshit Arya of India.
FM Mehdi Hasan Parag lost to top seeded player of this event GM Nigel Short of England, CM S M Sharon lost to GM Abhijit Gupta of India, FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman lost to GM Sandipan Chanda of India, CM Chanchal Kumer Ghosh lost to IM Vignesh N R of India, IM Mohammad Minhaz Uddin lost to Kavinda Akila of Sri Lanka.
FM Sk. Nasir Ahmed lost to Didwania Vishal of India, FM Kh. Aminul Islam lost to Shrutarshi Ray of India, WIM Rani Hamid lost to Navalgund Niranjan of India, Mukaddesur Rahman Khan lost to Jayakumaar S of India and M Anisuzzaman Jewel lost to Kushagra Mohan of India.
