14 mayoral candidates in GCC, KCC polls

Finally, 14 mayoral candidates will contest in the Gazipur and Khulna city corporation polls as the returning officers of both the cities declared their candidatures valid on Sunday.  
A total of 10 mayor candidates submitted their nomination papers to the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls.
After scrutiny, the returning officer declared nine of them valid and one cancelled.
A returning office staff of Gazipur, Md Rezaul Islam, said, 18 candidates had collected nomination papers. Of them, 10 submitted their papers in schedule time.
Independent candidate Afsar Uddin's nomination paper was canceled, returing office sources said.
The valid candidates are: Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League general secretary Jahangir Alam, BNP's Hasan Uddin Sarker, Jasad's Rashedul Hasan, Islamic Movement Bangladesh's Nasir Uddin, Bangladesh Islamist Front's Jalal Uddin, Independent candidate Gazipur Metropolitan Jamaat President SM Sanaullah, another Independent candidate Farid Ahmad, Joint Secretary (central) of Islami Oikya Jote Maulana Fazlur Rahman and Communist Party of Bangladesh Kazi Mohammad Rahul Amin.
Khulna City Corporations: The returning officer of Khulna, Yunus Ali, has declared five valid candidate's names for Khulna city polls. They are: Khulna BNP organizing secretary Nazrul Islam Manju, Khulna Metropolitan Awami League president Talukder Abdul Khalek, Mozammel Haque of Islami Movement, Mizanur Rahman of CPB, SM Mushfiqur Rahman of Jatiya Party.
