Govt spends over Tk 10 crore for primary schools, JS told

Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman on Monday said now the government is spending over Taka 10 crore annually as salary and allowances for the teachers and employees of the government primary school.
The minister said this while responding to a tabled question placed by treasury bench member Sheikh Mohammad Nurul Haq of Khulna-6 at the House.
In 2016-17, the government spent a total of Taka 10,84,59,206 for the government primary schools from the revenue budget, he said.
According to the annual census of the Primary Schools in 2017, the country has 25 types of primary schools totaling actual number at 1,33,901, said the minister.
A total of 5,57,00 teachers are engaged in these primary schools where the number of female teachers are 3,51,863, he added.
