Shooter Arnab Sharar earns quota-place to participate in Youth Olympics
Arnab Sharar of Bangladesh earned the quota-place to participate in the next Youth Olympic Games directly considering his performance in the 10th Asian Airgun Championship that concluded in the Japanese city of Wako on Tuesday. This is for the first time that a Bangladeshi athlete (shooter) directly qualified for the prestigious Youth Olympics in an individual discipline. Arnab Sharar of Bangladesh won silver medal in the 10th Asian Airgun Championship in the Youth Group of the Men's 10-metre Air Rifles Shooting on Saturday last.
Arnab narrowly missed the gold medal just for a half-point and earned the event's silver scoring 249.5. Chinese shooter Changhong Zhang clinched the gold medal scoring 250.0 while Tushar Shahu of India took the event's bronze making 228.2.
Arnab scored 50.5 in the first stage, 102.8 in the 2nd stage and 124.2. 143.8, 164.9, 185.9, 207.0, 288.3 in the elimination round to make a total score of 249.5 to win the silver.
Changhong Zhang of China scored 52.3, 104.3, 124.8, 144.4, 165.9, 186.9, 208.3 and 228.9 to score a total of 250.0 to win the gold medal while Tushar Shahu of India scored 51.3, 102.3, 122.8, 144.0, 165.5, 186.4, 207.2 (total 228.2) to win the bronze.
Earlier, three Bangladesh senior shooters - Abdullah Hel Baki, Risatul Islam and Rabbi Hassan Munna -- failed to reach the final round of the event.
A 15-member Bangladesh shooting team returned home on Wednesday after participating in the 10th Asian Airgun Championship in Japan. General secretary of Bangladesh Shooting Federation Inteqabul Hamid received him with a bouquet.
