NDF demands end of ethnic cleansing in Myanmar

Jessore district unit National Democratic Front (NDF) on Tuesday called upon the democracy- loving people across the world to raise their voices against ethnic cleansing in Myanmar.NDF staged demonstrations in Jessore town protesting at the genocide on Rohingya in Mynamar on Tuesday. The party brought out a protest procession and held a rally in Jessore town in support its demands. Hafizur Rahman, general secretary, Jessore district unit, Ashutosh Biswas, vice-president spoke at the rally.
81 people detained
Jessore police detained a total of 81 people and seized some cannabis and Phesedyl in 24 hours till Monday morning, a press release issued by superintendent of police, Jessore said. The press release stated that the police made the arrest raiding several places under eight upazilas across the district. The police filed 81 cases against motorbike owners as they could not be able show documents in favour of their bikes during raids, the press release added.
Arms recovered
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh seized a foreign pistol along with three rounds of bullets carrying out a raid at Andulia under Chaugachha police station on Monday night, Lt Colonel Ariful Hoque, commanding officer, 49 Border Guard Battalion told.
The BGB CO told that BGB personnel led by Habilder Julhas Uddin of Arshingri post recovered the arms and ammunition chasing miscreants while they were carrying arms from India at around 11:30pm on Monday. None was arrested in this connection.The arms and ammunition were deposited to Chaugachha police station after filing a case, the BGB official added.  
BNP leader dies  in  prison
An under trial leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party died at Jessore Central Jail on Monday night.The dead was identified as Badiur Rahman, 46, vice-president, Bagharpara Municipality unit Bangladesh Nationalist Party and also son of late Abdul Goni Skhikder of Bagharpara upazila headquarters.Jessore district unit BNP at a press conference, held at Jessore Press Club on Tuesday noon said    a case was filed against the late BNP leader along with 45 others after being picked him up by the police from his business outlet at Bagharpara in the evening of 25th Agust, 2017. Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, general secretary, Jessore district unit BNP, at press conference, said the BNP leader died of negligence of jail authority. 'Relatives of the dead were not informed about the sickness of the BNP leader earlier,' he said.   'Three of our leaders died at Jessore Central Jail due negligence of jail authority during Awami League era,' he added.
Reception accorded  to Afil MP

Lawmaker for Jessore- 1 constituency, Sheikh Afil Uddin was accorded a mammoth reception at Sharsha Stadium for his wining of Bangbandhu Jatya Krishi Purashkar. The ceremony was arranged under the banner of Sharsha upazila unit Awami League on Saturday evening.  The organizers claimed that over 20 thousand people took part the reception giving ceremony with banners and placards. Information affairs advisor to the prime minister, Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury was the chief guest at the ceremony while it was attended among others by Professor Dr Abdus Sattar, former vice- chancellor, Jessore University of Science and Technology, Professor SM Ibadul Haque, ex- principal, Jessore Government MM College, Shaban Mahmud, president, Dhaka Journalists Union (faction), Nuruzzaman, general secretary, Sharsha upazila unit Awami League. Sirajul Haque Manju, president, Sharsha upazila unit Awami League and also chairman of the upazila chaired the programme. The programme featured recitation form poems and songs dedicated to the lawmaker, blasting fire crackers and speeches.
