Cricketer Sunny gets bail in dowry case

National cricketer Arafat Sunny surrendered before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Monday and the court granted him bail in a case filed under the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Magistrate Zakir Hossain Tipu of the CMM Court passed the bail order after hearing. The same court issued an arrest warrant against the cricketer in the dowry case on Sunday.
A woman claiming herself Arafat's wife filed the case on January 20. Sunny's lawyer Muraraduzzaman said his client's bail in another case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act has also been extended up to  August 7.
A total of three cases have been filed against the national cricket team spinner.
Earlier, on January 5, the complainant Nasrin Sultana, filed a case against Arafat Sunny under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act. Sunny was arrested in the case on January 19. Later, the woman also filed a case against the cricketer on the charge of demanding Tk 2 million as dowry.
Finally, another case was filed against Arafat Sunny and his mother under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Sunny is now on bail in all three cases.
