Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee
The annual general meeting of Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee was held on the premises of Shri Shri Dhakeshwari Jatiya Mandir in the city on Friday. In the programme General Secretary of the committee Advocate Shiyamal Kumar Roy gave welcome speech and presented annual report of the committee. Joint General Secretary of the committee Dr Taposh Chandra Paul presented budget of the committee for the fiscal year 2017-2018. In the meeting the speakers sought cooperation from all for celebrating Janmastami and Durga Puja, the religious festivals of the Hindu community. The function was addressed, among others, by State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder, President of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad Jayanta Sen Dipu, Dr Nim Chandra Bhoumik, Journalist Swapon Kumar Saha, Subrata Chowdhury, General Secretary of Bagladesh  Puja Udjapon Parishad Advocate Taposh Kumar Paul. Leaders and general members of different thana committee of the organisation were also present on the occasion. President of the committee DN Chaterjee presided over the function.
Jatiya Ganotantrik League
A discussion on "No compromise with anti-liberation forces" organised by Jatiya Ganotantrik League was held at Dhaka Reporters' Unity on Friday. Awami League Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While speaking Hasan sounded a note of warning against BNP, saying stern action would be taken against those who would resort to anarchy to create chaotic situation in the country. "Begum Khaleda Zia used to go abroad to bring prescription for creating unrest across the country. "People of the country rejected her when she attacked the people with petrol bombs .If she tries to do the same this time people would bid her farewell forever," he said. Hasan, also the Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Forest and Environment Affairs, said that the next election would be held under the Election Commission (EC) and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lead the government during election-time. He charged BNP with patronizing militancy against the will of the people.The function was addressed, among others, by Barisal District Awami League General Secretary Talukder M Yunus and Jatiya Party Joint General Secretary Sadek Siddiqui. Former Vice-President of the Supreme Court Lawyers Association Advocate M Kazi Sajowar Hossain chaired the programme.
