Prices of essentials including veg, onion, garlic, rice go up in Sylhet

The prices of rice, vegetable, onion and garlic have gone up in the Sylhet city's kitchen markets.
Traders blame shortage of supply due the rain for price hike of vegetables.
While visiting Brommoye Bazar on Saturday, this correspondent found people bargaining with vegetable traders as they refused to reduce
the prices, claiming that the supply chain has been disrupted due to incessant rain.
The prices of onion increased by Tk 3 to Tk 5 a kg over the week. Imported onion was selling at Tk 25 Tk 30 a kg on Friday. The price of local onion increased by Tk 30 to Tk 40 per kg from Tk 28.
The prices of vegetables increased by Tk 5 Tk 20 a kg over the week. Aubergine was selling at Tk 60 to Tk 60 per kg, while bitter gourds at Tk 50 to Tk 60, cucumber at Tk 40 to Tk 50, okra at Tk 60 to Tk 70, papaya at Tk 30 to Tk 40 and bottle gourd was selling at Tk 40 to Tk 45 a piece,.
Cabbage was selling at Tk 40 a piece, cauliflower at Tk 40 to 50 a piece, carrot at Tk 50 to Tk 60 a kg and bean at Tk 60 to Tk 70 a kg. Green chilli was selling at Tk 80 to Tk 120 per kg on Friday.
Local garlic was selling for Tk 100 to 120 per kg while imported garlic for Tk 200 to 220. Price of the item was increased by Tk 20 per kg.
Prices of fish have also increased by Tk 30 to Tk 50 a kg over the week. Rohit was selling for Tk 300 to Tk 650 per kg, Katla for Tk 270 to Tk 350 kg, Pangas for Tk 150 to Tk 200 per kg and Tilapia for Tk 140 to Tk 160 per kg, depending on the size and quality.
Price of broiler remained unchanged and it was selling at Tk 160 to Tk 165 a kg, while the local hens were selling at Tk 320 to TK 350 a kg on the day.
Abdul Ali, a vendor selling vegetables at Subhanighat, Kitchen market, said prices of all essential commodities have increased in the market.
Prices of different varieties of rice have increased by Tk 2 to Tk 3 a kg. Coarse rice and miniket were selling at Tk. 58 to Tk 60 a kg at Karwanbazar. Two months ago, prices of coarse rice and miniket were Tk 44 and Tk. 48 per kg.
Price of bottled soybean oil remained unchanged. A one-litre container of soybean oil was selling at Tk 90 while a five-litre container was selling for Tk 470 to Tk 490 in the city's markets on Friday.
Unpacked soybean oil was selling at Tk 80 to Tk 85 per litre while refined palm oil was selling at Tk 74 to Tk 76 a litre.
