Court Correspondent :
The Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka yesterday indicted the lone suspect in the college teacher Krishna Kaberi murder case in the capital's Mohammadpur area in 2015.
Judge Shahed Nuruddin of the tribunal framed charges against Zahirul Islam Palash, a business partner of Krishana's husband and BRTA Deputy Director Sitangshu Shekhar Biswas on Thursday.  He was also injured in the incident at their house.
Kaberi was killed on March 30, 2015 reportedly by Palash. On Thursday, the judge read out the charges to Palash when he pleaded not guilty. He worked as a manager for a brokerage firm.
The tribunal fixed May 25 for recording the depositions of the witnesses, said Public Prosecutor Abu Abdullah Bhuiyan.
On March 30, 2015, Palash went to greet Krishna's husband on his birthday with a cake, sweets and flowers. The family in an apartment in Mohammadpur Iqbal Road was known to Palash.
Sitangshu Biswas lost consciousness after sipping some fruit juice which Palash might have spiked. He then tried to assault him with a hammer while Krishna tried to save her husband. But the accused battered her mercilessly and her husband. Her saree caught fire from the candles on the cake and she was burnt badly.
Their daughters 'Shruti', 14, and 'Atri', 8, shouted for help and they were also attacked by Palash. Krishna was a teacher of the Mission International College in Dhaka's Adabar area. She succumbed to the burn injuries in the hospital the following day.
