Int'l travel & tourism fair kicks off in capital

A three-day international tourism fair dubbed "Biman Bangladesh Travel and Tourism Fair (BBTTF)" began on Thursday with the participation of 13 countries to boost domestic tourism sector.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon opened the BBTTF as chief guest in city's Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).
Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) has organized the 7th edition of the mega event with the partnership of national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
Some 50 exhibitors from the 13 countries, especially South and South-East Asia, are showcasing their offer and packages for in and out bound travelers.
The participating countries are: Bhutan, Nepal, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Philippine, Turkey, Cambodia, India and host Bangladesh. Apart from these, some tour operators of Indian states - Assam, West Bengal, Odisha, Kashmir and Tripura- would also take part in the BBTTF.
Speaking on the occasion, Rashen Khan Menon said tourism generates employment opportunities along with economic development. "So, we have to develop a skilled workforce for the tourism sector." he added.
Referring to the successful arrangement of recent IPU conference in Dhaka, Menon said: "There is no doubt that foreign tourists would visit Bangladesh."
