Mintu Abdur Rahman, Rangpur  :
Education  and administrative works are being hindered at Govt. Primary Schools in Rangpur Division as a total of 6,884 posts of headmaster are lying vacant for a  long time .
Rangpur Divisional Primary Education Office sources said, there are 8,808 government primary schools in 58 upazilas under 8 districts in Rangpur division.
Out of these schools, 693 are running without headmaster since long. Sources said that posts of headmaster are lying vacant in 710 out 4,364 government primary schools in Rangpur district, 453 government primary schools out of 737 in Gaibandha, 10 out of 133 schools in Lamonirhat, 67 out of 563 in Kurigram, 112 out of 672 in Nilphamari, 371 out of 490 government primary schools in Dinajpur, 860 out of 4,628  government primary schools in Thakurgaon and 226 out of 572 government primary schools in Panchagarh.
Scarcity of headmasters in the government primary schools in the region is hindering the academic and administrative activities. It is much difficult to run teaching smoothly due to having pressure of extra work following the government order, teachers claimed.
In this situation if any teacher has to bear extra burden of acting headmaster, the administration and management of the school could never run smoothly as the other teachers of same rank hesitate to cooperate him, they alleged.  Teachers alleged that the government is developing the infrastructure of the schools every year but it failed to fill in vacant posts timely and develop the monitoring system of primary education.
Deputy Director of Rangpur Divisional Primary Education office, Mahbuba Alahi said ,  the primary schools in remote areas of the division are suffering a serious setback due to the scarcity of headmasters.  The authority of primary education directorate had assured of filling in the vacant posts of headmaster as soon as possible, he added.
