Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court on Wednesday fixed May 8 to pass an order on charge framing in a corruption case filed against 18 people, including building owner Sohel Rana over the deadly Rana Plaza collapse in 2013.
Judge Md Atoar Rahman of Dhaka Divisional Special Judges' Court set the date after hearing on charge framing against the accused in the case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
On July 16, 2014, ACC Deputy Director M Mofidul Islam and
Investigation Officer of the case submitted the charge sheet of the case against 18 people, including Sohel Rana, in the case.
The accused persons were Sohel Rana, his parents Abdul Khaleque and Marjina Begum. Savar Municipality Mayor Refat Ullah, former chief executive officer of Savar Municipality Uttam Kumar Roy, its executive engineer Rafiqul Islam, former commissioner Haji M Ali Khan, architect ATM Masud Reza, Sajjad Hossain and former town planner of Savar Municipality Farjana Islam, among others.
On June, 15, 2014, the ACC filed the case on charge of constructing Rana Plaza building beyond the Municipality approval.
The Municipality approved it in 2007 for constructing  a five-storied building, but the owners built an eight-storied commercial complex on wetland, which caused the catastrophic collapse.
