Impression of Time

  • Print

Sheikh Arif Bulbon :
Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) arranged the second solo painting exhibition of artist Md Abdul Guffar Babu titled Impression of Time which is going on at its La Galerie and Galerie Zoom in the city's Dhanmondi area now.
The exhibition was inaugurated by President and CEO of Bangladesh Enterprise Institute Farooq Sobhan   as the chief guest. Prof Abul Barq Alvi, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts of University of Dhaka and Prof Shishir Bhattacharya of Department of Drawing and Painting of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka were also present during the opening ceremony.
The impressions one gives to another could greatly influence how one is treated and viewed in many contexts of one's life. In psychology, an impression is an event when one person first encounters another person and forms a mental image of that person. Impression accuracy varies depending on the observer and the target (person, object, scene, etc.) being observed. These impressions can be nearly impossible to reverse or undo making those encounters extremely important, for they set the tone for all the relationships that follow. So whether they are in the professional or social life, it is important to know the dynamics of impression. Not only are people quick to form impressions of time, they are also fairly accurate when the target presents himself or herself genuinely.
Artist Abdul Guffar Babu obtained his MFA from the Department of Print Making, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka in 2008.  In between 2000-2016 he has participated in many group art exhibitions, residency programs and art workshops in home and abroad. He has been working in many different media like watercolor, oil color, pencil, acrylic, charcoal, etching aquatint, dry point, wood cut, lithography, installation, public art, video art, sound art, book illustrations, book cover design and mixed media since 2000. The subjects of the artist painting are often abstract and semi realistic.
The exhibition will continue till November 29.  n
